Ian Murray

B.A., HIS, Reg. AHIP

With over 15 years of experience in hearing health care and hearing sciences, Ian Murray has acquired a tremendous knowledge base in hearing testing, fitting, verification, and counseling individuals living with hearing and auditory impairments.

An Ottawa native, Ian received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Physical Geography/Cartography and Geology from Carleton university, after which he went on to complete three additional years towards his B.Sc. in the fields of Chemistry and Biology.

Moving to Toronto to continue his studies, Ian graduated as a Hearing Instrument Dispenser from George Brown College in 1994.  During his time in Toronto, Ian began to explore the educational aspect of his profession, developing and conducting seminars and tutorials for his hearing impaired patients and their families.

In 1996, Ian accepted a position to run the Department of Audiology at the Wilson Medical Centre in Hamilton.  At this time, Ian increased the scope of his care to include pediatric patients, in addition to those with noise-induced hearing loss, an unfortunately commonplace condition affecting factory workers in the heavily concentrated industrial zone that Hamilton and the region harbours.

As a response to this endemic hearing loss, Ian created and implemented educational programs, in addition to hearing conservation workshops at the companies of his patients.  Ian was determined to raise the level of awareness so that hearing loss could be prevented or mitigated in these high risk situations.  During the same period, Ian completed his third set of studies in Toronto, and graduated as a Hearing Instrument Specialist in 1999.

Moving back to Ottawa the same year, Ian continued his practice locally by initially completing his internship and then ultimately becoming a senior Specialist.  Over the next 10 years, he fine tuned his professional expertise, all the while consistently displaying compassion, skill, and dedication in his patient care.  Ian is committed to preventative hearing health measures and continues to educate the community in general by publishing articles and participating in local television and radio talk shows.

In the summer of 2009, Ian joined the Advanced Group of Clinics to further his education in aural diagnostics and in the provision of hearing healthcare. The environment at "Advanced" also allows for exposure to state of the art testing facilities and service which incorporates research along with high quality patient care.
